Remote Course Instruction Preparation for Undergrads

Online Learning

Dear Students,
As  the  Chemical  and  Biological  Engineering  Department  prepares  for  remote  course
instruction, we ask that you download several programs and applications to ease the transition from an in-class to an online format.

1.  First, you will need to download and install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN by downloading the file from
https://itssc.rpi.edu/hc/en-us/articles/360008783172-VPN-Connection-and-Installation
The  VPN  client  allows  you  to  run  RPI  supported  software  remotely.  You  will  need  to
be connected to vpn.net.rpi.edu to run Matlab, COMSOL, Aspen and other programs.

2.  Second,  many  instructors  will   be  delivering  live-stream  lectures  through   Cisco
Webex Meetings. You can register for an account and download meeting software by logging into
https://rensselaer.webex.com
You should verify with your instructor whether you will use Webex Meetings or another format.

3.  Third, recorded lectures, exams, quizzes, and other course materials will be shared through LMS and  Box  Drive.  Box  works  analogously  to  Dropbox,  except  RPI  will  support  50  GB  of free storage to everyone in the RPI community. You can claim your storage space and register for an account at
https://box.rpi.edu
Once you have an account you should receive an invitation to join a folder shared among your class.

If you have trouble downloading or accessing the SecureCRT VPN, Cisco Webex Meetings, or your Box
drive please visit the IT Services and Support Center (ITSSC) at
https://itssc.rpi.edu/hc/en-us
If you have questions about a specific class, please contact your instructor.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this transition.
Warmest Regards,
CBE Faculty and Staff
