The Professor Meyer H. Birnboim Endowed Lecture Series at Rensselaer honors the many contributions of Professor Meyer H. Birnboim in his major fields of interest, namely rheology and optics. Dr. Birnboim was a scientist, an engineer, and a problem solver who deeply cared about fundamental understanding of materials and their applications to solving modern problems.
The endowment, established through the generosity of the Birnboim family, will support the Prof. Meyer H. Birnboim Endowed Lecture in Rheology (in the Department of Chemical Engineering) and the Prof. Meyer H. Birnboim Endowed Lecture in Optics (in the Department of Physics) in alternating years, thus honoring his important contributions to both fields.
Selection as the Prof. Meyer H. Birnboim Lecturer in rheology or optics will be a special honor given to a rising star faculty member or an established international expert in the field. The lecture presents an opportunity to bring a world-class scholar to visit Rensselaer, expose our faculty and students to the latest ideas and advances in these fields, and elevate both the speaker and Rensselaer, while honoring the work of Dr. Meyer H. Birnboim.
