The Center for Biotechnology & Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS) is a uniquely focused on collaborative research at the frontiers of life sciences, physical science, informatics, and engineering. One of the most advanced biotechnology research facilities in the U.S., CBIS is committed to innovative interdisciplinary research. We also offer a comprehensive academic suite of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral education programs through Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Schools of Science, Engineering, Architecture, Business, and Humanities.

Center for Computation Innovations (CCI)
Founded in 2007, Rensselaer's Center for Computational Innovations (CCI) is housed in a 22,000 square foot facility at the Rensselaer Technology Park. It includes a 4,500 square foot machine room, offices and space for industry visitors. The CCI operates heterogeneous supercomputing systems consisting of massively parallel IBM Blue Gene/Q supercomputer and Intel Xeon processor-based clusters. The computational power of the current hardware configuration is rated at over 1 PF peak. These systems are supported by over a petabyte of disk storage. The CCI has dedicated high-speed connections to the main campus with up to 32 fiber lines available for growth as well as a direct connection to the NYSERNet optical infrastructure and Internet2 that provides access to the national and international high-speed networks.

Center for Materials, Devices, and Integrated Systems (CMDIS)
The broad research vision of the cMDIS is to integrate research capabilities and expertise across the broad spectrum of engineering, physical, chemical sciences at Rensselaer. We are always striving to build a cohesive community equipped to tackle research challenges that are at the forefront of the national agenda and that underpin technological advances that address global economic, security, and sustainability challenges.
Center for Smart Convergent Manufacturing Systems (CSCMS)
Originally established as a NY State-designated Center for Advanced Technology in 2025, the Center assists client companies with applied manufacturing R&D to help them meet specific business objectives so that they can grow and create jobs.

NYS Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES)
The Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES) is a New York State Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) funded by Empire State Development through the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR). Since its inception in 2004, CFES also provides the locus of energy research at Rensselaer to connect world-leading expertise of faculty and staff with the needs of the energy industry to spur economic development in New York.

The Scientific Computation Research Center (SCOREC) is focused on the development of reliable simulation technologies for engineers, scientists, medical professionals, and other practitioners. These advancements enable experts in their fields to employ, appraise, and evaluate the behavior of physical, chemical, and biological systems of interest.
