CBE Alumnus Nitash Balsara Elected to the National Academy of Engineering

Nitash Balsara

The Howard P. Isermann Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering proudly celebrates the election of alumnus Prof. Nitash P. Balsara (Ph.D. ’88) to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in October 2026. Election to the NAE represents one of the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.

Prof. Balsara, the Charles W. Tobias Chair of Electrochemistry at UC Berkeley and a Senior Faculty Scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, was formally recognized for elucidating the relationship between mechanical and electrical properties in block copolymer electrolytes to develop solid electrolytes for rechargeable batteries. His fundamental investigations into polymer nanostructures and transport dynamics have shaped clean energy storage innovations and catalyzed multiple commercial battery ventures.

The RPI CBE community extends its warmest congratulations to Prof. Balsara on this landmark achievement. His career exemplifies the enduring impact of RPI education, research, and alumni leadership.
